Planning & Zoning
Zoning regulates land uses within the City. Each parcel in the City is assigned to a zone which describes the regulations under which that land may be used. The zoning code identifies allowable uses and sets standards such as minimum lot size, maximum building height, and minimum yard depth.
The Planning and Zoning Commission is an advisory board. Their primary duty is to hold hearings where public opinion can be exposed regarding:
- ~ Proposed rezoning
- ~ Special use permits
- ~ Zoning code amendments
- ~ Subdivision plats
- ~ Home occupations
- ~ Vacation of alleys and streets
- ~ Other items found in Macon Planning and Zoning regulations
Once a request is discussed and voted on by the commission, it is forwarded to the City Council Agenda with the recommendation as decided at the public hearing. The City Council makes the final vote.
